What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a body aesthetic surgery technique that allows us to permanently remove localised fat from certain areas of the body, achieving a more harmonious silhouette and improving your body line.
Directions
Fat deposits form, on the one hand, for genetic and hormonal reasons and, on the other, due to inadequate diet and a sedentary lifestyle. When these localised fat deposits do not disappear with either diet or exercise, liposuction is indicated.
We mustn't forget that this isn't a slimming technique but a localised way to eliminate accumulated fat in specific parts of the body.

FAQs about liposuction
Directions
Liposuction is indicated for patients who show signs of fat accumulation but are not obese – that is to say, people whose weight does not exceed 30% of their ideal weight, who are in good health, have supple skin and good muscle tone. This is localised fat that we are unable to get rid of even when we lose weight.
Intervention
Through one or more tiny incisions near the area to be treated, a small, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted, which is connected to a vacuum pressure unit. Directed by the Plastic Surgeon, the fat is suctioned out, shaping the area.
Generally, incisions are less than 0.6 mm and are made as discreetly as possible, frequently within skin creases or contour lines. Depending on the area to be operated on, the type of anaesthetic will be chosen.
The most typical areas of intervention are:
- Cartridges
- Abdomen
- Thighs
- Belt
- Kneecaps
- Double chin
- Maluc
Technique
To aspirate fat, thin cannulae of small diameter are introduced through a minimal incision. It is not just about aspirating lumps of fat, but about harmonising the silhouette by sculpting the figure.
Regarding anaesthesia, this technique offers us different possibilities depending on the number of areas to be treated and the amount of fat volume to be extracted. It can be performed with anaesthesia:
- Local admission
- Outpatient with sedation without admission
- Epidural with or without 24hr admission.
- General with 24-hour admission.
Postoperative
Once the intervention is complete, an elastic support is fitted which the patient will need to wear for approximately one month. The appearance of bruising and swelling is normal and will gradually disappear over the following days.
The patient will be able to return to their usual life after a few days. The results are produced continuously and progressively, achieving a great improvement in the silhouette.
It is very important for each patient to undergo a thorough study to determine the outcome, as factors such as skin quality, muscle, the existence of cellulite, or excess weight must be taken into account.
