What instructions should I take into account?

In any plastic surgery procedure it is very important to take into account its indications: when the breasts have not developed (aplasia). Breasts with little development at puberty (hypoplasia). Loss of volume after weight loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding. In these cases there may be a certain degree of ptosis (sagging) that is corrected with breast augmentation. Breast asymmetry, breasts with different volumes that must be corrected by placing implants of different sizes. The procedure is also indicated for patients who, even though they have volume, wish to increase it even further. In some cases, such as ptosis surgery (sagging breasts), not only is an augmentation performed but it is complemented with a pexy (lift) to keep the areolas in their exact place. Whatever the reasons, this procedure must be performed by plastic surgeons who understand the process and after careful consideration in which all aspects of the procedure have been taken into account.

The entry route for a prosthesis.

The surgeon has three possible approaches for inserting the implants: Periareolar approach: peripheral incision at the level of the areola. Inframammary or submammary approach: incision in the breast crease. Axillary approach: incision in the armpit, taking advantage of a natural fold.

What is the post-operative period like?

Once the procedure has been carried out, the surgeon will leave you with a compression bandage, which will be removed the following day before you go home and replaced with a sports bra that you must wear day and night during the first month. For the first 24 to 48 hours, the breasts feel tight and are sore to the touch. In a normal postoperative course, after a week you can return to your normal life and after a month to your sports activities. Breast augmentation gives an immediate result, but we recommend that you be patient: during the first few weeks the breasts need to adapt well to their new shape and size, and the full flexibility of the breasts and the stabilisation of the implants are not achieved until the third and sixth month. It is very important that you know all the contraindications and possible postoperative complications before making your decision. Are breast implants permanent? Will I need to have them replaced at some point?
