What is an arm and leg lift?

Leg or arm lifts involve correcting excess skin on the limbs. These types of procedures are usually requested by patients who have experienced significant weight loss, generally due to obesity treatment. In the case of arms, there may not have been prior obesity, but there is usually a history of weight loss or muscle mass loss.

FAQs about arm and leg lifts

Crural or leg lift

This is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the legs by removing excess skin and/or fat, reshaping the contour.

Achieving toned legs often involves addressing the inner thighs. The natural ageing process, weight fluctuations, and hormonal influences can lead to localised fat deposits on the inner thighs. The solution for excess fat is liposuction, but when there is also excess skin, a thigh lift is required.

If the problem is more serious, there are patients who can suffer scratches and irritations during the summer months.

Crural lift or leg lift indications

Directed specifically at those people who have suffered weight loss, who do not have good skin quality, or who have a genetic predisposition, this procedure can be combined with liposculpture in cases where the thighs meet due to excess accumulated fat.

Thigh lift surgery

The incision is made in the groin crease to remove excess fat and skin from the inner thigh; in any case, it is a scar that is very well disguised.

A thigh lift is a procedure that lasts between two and three hours and requires general or epidural anaesthesia, as well as an overnight hospital stay. During the first 48 hours after the operation, the patient must rest, though from the third day they will be able to get up and start walking. Nevertheless, it is not advisable to walk excessively after a week.

To relieve heaviness and reduce swelling, lymphatic drainage can be performed, although it should only be started when your surgeon advises you to do so.

Arm lift

It involves the removal of excess skin and subcutaneous cellular tissue that appears when the patient raises their arms 90 degrees and separates them from the body.

Arm lift surgery

It involves performing liposuction to facilitate skin traction and then removing the excess skin.

The duration of this surgery ranges from two to three hours and requires a total rest of one to two days. The vast majority of daily activities can be resumed within a week, although returning to work may take around a fortnight.

The anaesthetic is general and requires an overnight hospital stay.
