What is blepharoplasty?
This is the name given to the surgical technique for rejuvenating the eyes; excess skin and bags can occur on both the upper and lower eyelids.
Eyelid surgery repositions tissues, bringing freshness and brightening the eyes, eliminating tired and aged appearances, and achieving a lasting result for years to come.
Skin laxity is caused by the relaxation of muscle and skin, which over the years loses its firmness and elasticity.
Applications
The primary objective of this procedure is to maintain a natural result, therefore the technique does not aim to stretch, but rather to reposition the tissues so that the natural structure of the face and natural expression are not altered. Once the procedure is completed and after a reasonable recovery waiting period, the patient can return home.
The procedure lasts between 40 and 120 minutes depending on whether it is 2 or 4 eyelids.

What techniques do we use?
The procedure can be performed on the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both. On the upper eyelid, the surgeon makes the incisions by following the natural creases.
On the lower eyelid, there are two techniques:
The traditional, making an incision just below the eyelashes. This technique is suitable for patients who have eyelid laxity, and therefore we need to remove skin to achieve the appropriate tension.
2. The transconjunctival, The procedure is carried out inside the lower eyelid. This technique is suitable for patients who have bags under their lower eyelids but no excess skin. The advantage is that there is no external scar. Fat, located in small pockets, is removed through the incisions. Extremely fine sutures are used for closure.
What type of anaesthesia is used for the operation?
Blepharoplasty can be performed with local anaesthetic or local anaesthetic with sedation. This anaesthetic allows the patient to be awake and completely at ease, but without feeling any pain.
The upper eyelid can be done under local anaesthetic, although it is always the surgeon who decides the type of anaesthetic to be used after assessment.
What is the recovery like?
It is normal for the patient to experience some discomfort in the hours following the intervention, particularly inflammatory issues. Bruising and a feeling of tightness may also appear. This discomfort will disappear within a few days. It is most normal for the patient to be able to resume their usual activities between the third and fifth day, though they will need to wait several weeks to participate in sports.

Who is the intervention intended for?
This intervention is indicated for those who wish to improve the appearance of their eyes, due to factors including:
- Drooping of the upper eyelids.
- Fatty lumps on the inner edge of the upper eyelid.
- Eye bags under the lower eyelids.
- Excess skin.
Bags tend to appear from the age of 35, with three on the lower eyelid and two on the upper. It can occur in younger patients with a genetic predisposition; the bags can give a tired appearance, even if we have had sufficient rest, and they are impossible to conceal, even with good corrective makeup.
