FAQs about abdominoplasty

Directions

This body contouring surgical procedure can be performed on both men and women with abdominal fat deposits, loose skin, and who have not achieved results with treatments aimed at weight loss and physical exercise to regain tone in the abdominal wall.

If you are considering undergoing surgery for weight loss, you should wait to make the decision to have this procedure, the same if you are expecting to become pregnant, as pregnancy will once again distend the abdominal wall.

The results of this intervention are quick and immediately noticeable.

Types of abdominoplasty

Two types of abdominoplasty can be distinguished:

1. The complete one that affects the entire abdomen.

2. The restricted one that only affects the abdomen from the navel to the pubis and is also called a mini-abdominoplasty.

Intervention

Abdominoplasty can be performed with epidural or general anaesthetic; our surgeon will study your case and advise the most suitable option. The procedure is carried out in a hospital and the patient remains admitted for one or two nights.

An abdominal lipectomy can last two to three hours, if it is complete, and one to two hours, if it is restricted. The incision is made at the level of the pubis, and the extent of the incision depends on the amount of excess skin.

Through the incision, the abdominal muscles are exposed. The surgeon makes sutures to tighten the area and removes the excess skin to achieve maximum volume reduction and a narrower waist. To finish, the plastic surgeon sutures the incisions.

In a mini tummy tuck, we only move the skin below the navel and pull it to remove excess skin from this area. The resulting scar is small, usually being the same length as the pubic hairline.

Postoperative

During the first few days, your abdomen will be swollen and you will likely experience some discomfort, especially if you have undergone muscle plication. Although you will have discomfort in the initial days, it is advisable to move around and start walking as soon as possible. Full recovery may take a few weeks, but you will be able to resume your usual activities, except for playing sports, from seven to ten days onwards, depending on the type of work you do.

Our medical team will advise you on your return to normal life.
The scars resulting from the intervention may appear to worsen for the first six months; this is normal. They will then begin to fade and flatten, often taking up to a year to become unnoticeable, especially with the application of rosehip oil. Stetics&Medic is a pioneer in this type of cosmetic surgery intervention.
