The ball that fits you
To improve balloons, the balloon with greater stomach permanence was developed, it is the Spatz balloon. It is the only one in the world authorised to remain for 12 months. This balloon is placed, just like the 6-month one, via endoscopy without hospital admission.
The aim of this balloon is to reduce appetite, slow stomach emptying and
breaking the vicious cycle (hunger-anxiety-hunger)

Advantages of the Adjustable Spatz Ball (12 months)
Experience shows us that not only the length of stay is important
Inside the balloon, it is also important to specify the variation in its volume in order to adapt to the balloon's tolerance, which is why with this 12-month balloon we can achieve double the weight loss.
Depending on the characteristics of our patient.
The readjustment procedure is very short, around 15 minutes.

FAQs about the 12-month vaccine
What is the intervention like?
The Spatz Adjustable Balloon™ is a non-surgical treatment indicated for weight loss and control. It is the only system that allows us to adjust the balloon's volume with an implantation duration of one year. The intragastric balloon is a device that restricts the effective gastric cavity, allowing the patient to feel fuller sooner with the ingestion of less food.
It also works when the patient is fasting, so the intragastric balloon is detected by the stomach walls and simulates a false sense of fullness. This false sense of fullness causes a decrease in cravings between meals.
What are the advantages of the adjustable balloon?
- It is adjustable and personalised for each patient.
- It is approved for a one-year implementation.
The balloon offers the possibility of adjusting its volume once implanted, ensuring greater weight loss. An implantation period of 12 months provides more time for the patient to learn and consolidate new behavioural and eating habits.
The procedure that has met the expected expectations in weight loss for our patients requires a highly qualified specialist due to the greater technical difficulty involved in placing this balloon.
How does the gastric balloon work?
The Gastric Balloon inside the stomach produces a permanent feeling of fullness and fills easily with small amounts of food.
This is because the gastric balloon occupies 60% of the stomach’s capacity, thereby significantly reducing daily food intake.
This makes it very easy for the patient to comply with a diet and a programme of modification of eating habits and lifestyle.
How much weight can be lost with a gastric balloon?
The average weight loss with the Gastric Balloon is 20 kg. Excess weights of 30 kg or less generally achieve total loss of overweight. Some patients have managed to lose more than 30 kg in BMI groups over 40. The ultimate goal sought in our Obesity Unit is for the patient to achieve significant weight loss with the Gastric Balloon and for this to be maintained over time through a change in lifestyle and a recovery of normal eating habits, accompanied by the Multidisciplinary Group.
Who can use the gastric balloon?
The Gastric Balloon can be used by people who have not managed to lose significant weight with other treatments and who.
How can eating habits and lifestyle be restored?
The treatment is supported by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including a Nutritionist and an Endoscopic Surgeon, to support you throughout your treatment to achieve a healthy weight, good eating habits, and physical activity.
The patients who have undergone this method have mostly not only lost significant weight, but have also regained a healthy lifestyle.
How long is the gastric balloon used for?
The Gastric Balloon is recommended for use over 6 months, after which it must be removed, as the silicone material begins to weaken and its contents may leak out.
If the patient requires greater weight loss than is generally achieved in 6 months (30 kg), a second gastric balloon can be placed at the time the first one is removed.
How is the gastric balloon removed?
The Intragastric Balloon is removed via endoscopy. This is done under deep sedation, a catheter is introduced to puncture the Gastric Balloon and completely deflate it. Finally, using an extractor forceps, the Intragastric Balloon is grasped and removed through the mouth.
The placement of a gastric balloon can cause the following symptoms:
The first two days, a feeling of fullness is present, sometimes accompanied by vomiting and abdominal pain. These symptoms are managed by administering medication, which in most cases is not needed for more than two days.
From the third to the eighth day, full.
The symptoms after this period are generally mild and occasional, with the gastric balloon effect remaining, which fills easily with small amounts of food.
