Essential post-operative treatment
Lymphatic drainage is a type of gentle massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluid around the body.
Lymphatic drainage is a specific massage technique aimed at activating the functioning of the superficial lymphatic system to improve the elimination of interstitial fluid and enhance lymphatic circulation.
How is the drainage carried out?
The drainage is performed with the hands and fingers all over the body, in a gentle and rhythmic manner, applying gentle pressure to the skin. It is the best beauty complement for a healthy and stress-free life.
FAQs about lymphatic drainage
The lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs which help rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials. It consists of vessels, nodes and organs such as the tonsils, spleen and thymus.
The lymphatic system is of great importance in our body. It is considered part of the circulatory system as it is made up of ducts similar to capillary vessels. These vessels transport lymph, which originates from the blood and returns to it.
The fact that the lymphatic and immune systems are so closely linked is due to the existence of lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are a type of purification station that appear along the entire pathway of the lymphatic system, and their mission is to purify pathogens, combat them, and neutralise damage.
When the lymphatic system is congested, the lymph nodes cannot perform their job correctly, and the fact that the nodes appear swollen is a sign that something abnormal is happening within us.
The lymphatic drainage system's functions are:* **Fluid balance:** It collects excess fluid (lymph) from tissues that has leaked out of blood capillaries and returns it to the bloodstream. This prevents swelling (oedema). * **Immune defence:** Lymph nodes, which are part of the lymphatic system, filter the lymph, removing waste products, bacteria, viruses, and other foreign materials. Lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) within the lymph nodes identify and destroy these harmful substances. * **Fat absorption:** The lymphatic system plays a role in absorbing fats from the digestive system through specialised vessels called lacteals in the intestines, transporting them to the bloodstream.
- Activate the immune system.
- Transport the fluids.
- Detoxifies, cleanses, protects, and nourishes the body.
We recommend it as a pre- and post-operative treatment to prepare and repair tissues following cosmetic surgery.
This treatment is carried out as a supplement for patients who have entered a weight loss programme, as they lose weight and volume more easily. We consider it very positive to supplement it with some massage sessions, always manual.
There are other indications where lymphatic drainage is an indispensable treatment:
- Acne.
- Bags under the eyes.
- Hair loss.
- Migraines.
- Anti-stress effect.
