360º lifting-effect facial tightening threads: what they are, how they work and results

Tension threads are resorbable threads inserted under the skin to produce an immediate lifting effect through traction and, in addition, stimulate collagen production. CLT Cog Traction 360º threads stand out for their stronger grip and for being placeable with a cannula instead of a needle, which reduces discomfort and bruising. It is a minimally invasive technique that does not replace surgery for advanced sagging: the indication is always confirmed in a medical consultation.

When the skin of the face starts to lose firmness, the facial oval becomes blurred and the first wrinkles appear, many people look for an alternative to the scalpel. Lifting threads have become one of the leading treatments for sagging skin with lifting threads in Girona, with a visible lifting effect from the very first moment and a quick recovery.

In this article we explain what they are, how the different types of thread work, what results to expect, how long they last and what care helps prolong them, including the novelty of the CLT Cog Traction 360º threads that we use at the clinic.

What tightening threads are and how they work

Tension threads are threads made of resorbable material —usually Polydioxanone (PDO)— that the specialist inserts under the dermis. They act through two complementary mechanisms:

  • Immediate mechanical effect: the barbs of the thread anchor into the tissue and exert a slight traction that repositions the skin of the cheeks, cheekbones and jawline.
  • Progressive biological effect: the thread produces a controlled micro-injury that stimulates the production of collagen, elastin and fibroblasts, redensifying the skin over the following weeks.

That is why the result comes in two stages: an improvement that is visible as soon as the session ends, and a second phase of firmness that builds up as the skin generates supporting tissue.

What's new: CLT Cog Traction 360º threads

CLT Cog Traction 360º threads are a model with barbs evenly distributed around the entire thread, giving them greater grip and strength. They are especially indicated for those seeking a lifting effect on the cheekbones, chin and facial contour with a non-invasive technique.

Their great practical advantage is that they can be placed with a cannula instead of a needle. This provides more comfort during placement and minimises the chance of bruising. Normally 2 to 4 threads are placed and the patient can resume normal life right away.

Types of facial threads: which one suits each skin type

Not all threads aim for the same thing. At the consultation, the type and number are decided according to the degree of sagging and the quality of the skin:

Tipo de hiloWho it is forWhat it offers
Mesh / redensifying threadsThin, low-density skin, from the age of 30They create a collagen network; smooth wrinkles and maintain volume without strong traction
Barbed lifting threadsInitial sagging of the cheekbones and cheeks, poorly defined oval (common from age 45)Traction and repositioning with a visible lifting effect
Hilos CLT Cog Traction 360ºFor those seeking maximum lifting with minimal discomfortGreater grip and strength; cannula placement, less bruising

The combination and number of threads are defined by the medical team after assessing your case. Find out more on the thread lift page.

Results and duration: how long the effect lasts

The tightening effect is noticeable immediately after the procedure. At 15-20 days a significant firming is already apparent, and the result stabilizes between 2 and 3 months, when the skin completes the neocollagen process and gains texture, radiance and firmness.

The duration depends on age, the type of thread, skin quality and each person's habits. In general the effect can last from several months to a couple of years; the threads are reabsorbed, but the stimulated collagen prolongs the result. Smoking, excessive sun exposure or sudden weight loss shorten it.

Am I a good candidate for tightening threads?

Tension threads are designed for mild or moderate sagging. As a general guideline, a good candidate is someone who:

  • You notice that the facial oval is losing definition or that cheekbones and cheeks are slightly "dropping".
  • Wants a lifting effect without surgery and with a quick recovery.
  • Your skin is thick enough to anchor the threads.

When it is not the best option: with advanced sagging or a lot of excess skin, the result of threads is limited and surgery (facelift or blepharoplasty) may be more suitable. The final indication is determined by the medical team at the consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the placement of tightening threads hurt?
It is a quick and well-tolerated procedure. Local anesthesia is applied to the area and, in the case of CLT Cog Traction 360º threads, placement with a cannula reduces discomfort and the risk of bruising.
How many threads are placed?
It depends on the degree of laxity and the area. With CLT Cog Traction 360º threads, usually between 2 and 4 threads are placed; in other protocols there may be more. The exact number is decided at the consultation.
When do you see the results and how long do they last?
The tightening effect is visible right after the treatment; it is reinforced at 15-20 days and stabilizes at 2-3 months as collagen forms. Duration varies depending on the skin and habits, and it can last from several months up to a couple of years.
Can I lead a normal life afterwards?
Yes. It is a minimally invasive treatment and, in general, you can resume your usual activity the same day, avoiding intense exertion, facial massages and direct sun exposure for a few days.
Do tightening threads replace a facelift?
No. Threads treat mild or moderate sagging. For advanced sagging or significant excess skin, facelift surgery offers a more complete result. At the consultation we will tell you which option suits your case.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes, they are compatible with other regenerative and hydration therapies, such as mesotherapy with vitamins and hyaluronic acid or wrinkle filler, to improve the overall quality of the skin.
